ABOUT LAURAFilm. Movement. Visual art.
It’s all the same to me.
I work through the body first. I register meaning physically before I put language to it. I understand the world through balance, pressure, rhythm, and pause. I learn by doing: I let the physical process lead, and see what it reveals along the way.
I love flow state and fresh figs and the afternoon sun through venetian blinds and when turn signal rhythms sync up. Originally from New Jersey, now in Los Angeles.
I started longboard dancing in the midst of the pandemic as a way to get out of my head and into my body. I didn’t expect to fall so passionately in love with this form of movement…and obviously, just fall a bunch in general.
I’m an ambassador for Loaded Boards and RevBalance. I’ve also been featured on boards for shred skate (a sustainable surfskate brand) and Backfire Boards (an e-skate board maker). I’ve skated in commercial videos and promotional photography.
I surf, snowboard, eboard, and balance board, too. Basically, anything where my body can be sideways. I grew up fencing, so it feels familiar.
Music was my first creative language. I played original music all around San Francisco for a few years there, and some of it is up on Spotify. My friend jerry’s impactful advice for songwriting is “say the hard thing.” I really believe that when we are able to share that vulnerability, we open ourselves up to connection with ourselves and others. We all deserve to be seen and understood.
